Tibet’s Stolen Child

by Kashish | April 2008

In 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was kidnapped by Chinese authorities just two months after he was officially recognized as the 11th Panchen Lama, one of Tibet's most important religious leaders. On Friday, April 25th, 2008, he turned 19 years old. His birthday was marked by another year spent under Chinese detention.

Students for a Free Tibet celebrated by raising awareness at Union Square, New York.

Ashok Gurung, the Senior Director of India China Institute (New School University, New York), talks about the Tibet-China issue, geopolitics of the region, and Nepal's CPN-Maoist on the latest episode of In Conversation, our weekly podcast.
