Feb 6: In the last couple of weeks of January 2007 the eastern town of Lahan was brewing turmoil. Series of protests organized by Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) led to clashes between the protesters and the police, and protesters and Maoists. Among the dead were 16-year-old Ramesh Kumar Mahato, shot by a Maoist cadre, and 15-year old Pramod Sada, killed when the police opened fire, claiming self-defense. Curfews have been lifted since then, and no incidents have been reported this past week. Today the protesters came out peacefully carrying an owl, though the symbolic significance is unclear. Yesterday they came out with a parade of buffaloes, and the day before saw four dogs labeled Sitaula, Koirala, Prachanda and Matrika respectively—referring to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Prime Minster Girija Prasad Koirala, Maoist Chairman Prachanda, and Maoist MP Matrika Yadav.

I dont think the bombings in Iraq or any other parts of the world is worse than this incident in Lahan. I think, democracy does not come by vandalizing the public property but through the dialogue and discussion. It is better to bang the table with fist full of logics and political ideoly than set the public property on fire. Its time to change the way we show our agreession and to advocate the rights of minorities. With full respect to the rights of minorities and Madhesis but condemning the outrageous unhealthy demonstration like this…..
