Thank you Samudaya for posting these audio recordings.

However the date of the event you give is wrong.

The Khula Manch was organised on 25 April 2006.

A little background on how this “event” was organised will also be useful for the record. Gyanendra’s annoucement came on 24 April night.

Protests/demonstrations were still continuing as victory/warnings/general. In this midst some far-sighted individuals including Purna Basnet,Usha Titikshu, Anup Subedi, Suvash Dharnal, Sudarshan Ghimire, Ramesh Rayanmajhi, Prof. Maheshwor Man Shrestha, and others, decided to organise the Khula Manch.

It was a last-minute decision, and the speakers agreed and showed up at the manch at very short notice.

The speakers were representative:
Rubin Gandharva, Folk singer
Chayya Devi, democracy activist
Binod Pahadi, Dalit activist and journalist
Dr.Ram Man Shrestha, Sanyukta Loktantrik Morcha
Krishna Hari Bhakta, Sanykta Bam Morcha
Anil Kumar Jha, Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi)
Ram Kumari Jhankri, Youth leader
Bishnu Nisthuri, Federation of Nepalese Journalists
Krishna Pahadi, Human Rights Activist
Hari Roka, Independent left leader
Rajendra Rai, Youth leader of CPN (UML)
Gagan Thapa, Youth leader of NC
Arjun Parajuli, Poet
Krishna Thapa, Poet
Pradeep Giri, NC (Democratic)
Yubaraj Chaulagain, CPN (Maoist)/ANNFSU (Revolutionary)
Lilamani Pokharel, Janmorcha Nepal

Ram Kumari Jhankari is a student activist affiliated to All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU, or Akhil), student mass organisation of the CPN (UML). She is a secretaire member, or a core group member.

Ram Kumari Jhankari has been active in the movement for the last ten years.

Her face became famous when the police brutally beat her head with lathis and left her bleeding in 2003. This picture was leading visual in newspapers/magazines.

Again she was back on the street and beaten again.

The picture of Ram Kumari bleeding became a rallying point for student rage against the royalist regime well before the takeover in February 2005.

These were the students who pushed the republican and constituent assembly agenda on the overground.

Hope this suffices as information.

She is a pretty girl too with a feisty attitude. Its quite a turn on when she gets all heated in debate!

There seems to be some confusion about the ‘New Nepal’ concept. This concept was put forward by Comrade Prachanda in 2003 and not by the howling bourgeois parties as seen as present.
